Just Like A Movie

New York was just like the movies. Time square was amazing, and yes the advertising promotions there were ridiculous. Three story high Target posters and coke ads. Movie advertisements that definitely caught your eye. Digital posters were amazing and plentiful.
In the picture below you can kind of see the Charmin restrooms. It was literally a building where people go to go use the restroom. It was interesting. All part of advertising their toilet paper though.

Subliminal messaging

Subliminal messaging is in a lot of music and people don't even realize it. I mean think about it when ever you hear certain songs they make feel a certain way. They put you in moods sometimes to do certain things or have certain things. In that you might have to go buy a product the song sings about to follow through with your mood. I always thought this was an interesting thought.

New York

I'm going to New York for 5 days next week and I'm pretty excited I've never actually been there so it should be fun. I'm going with our DECA group so we're going to get to visit a lot of big time companies and get to see a lot of examples of advertisements and promotions. Being Texan though will make this experience very cold. I'm excited to see those billboards that are like digital and on the sides of buildings. We're going to visit B.E.T. and the Morning show. so it should all be fun.

Mock Competition

This Friday I am going to A mock competition for DECA. We are going to learn how the competitions are going to work and if you win you still get a prize. The competitions have categories or areas of business marketing. For example Travel Tourism, Sports Entertainment, Hospitality, etc. I think I will compete in the Sports entertainment just to see if I like it. You also get to choose if you have a team or if you work alone. It should be exciting and interesting to see the outcome. To see if I'm really fit out for all of this advertising stuff.

Stars Game

I went to the stars game last week Stars V.S. Minnesota Wild. Stars won and even scored a goal in the first 13 seconds of the game. It was pretty awesome. It was me and three other kids from businesses classes. I was the only one from DECA there and I'm the Vice President and they had Guest speakers talking about their jobs. They had a woman there that had a job that really intrigued me. She was the person who would meet up with big time companies and offer advertising space in the American Airlines center. She doesn't work in a cubical and she got paid about 120,000 a year. Her job is a lot like something I want to do before I get my own Television show of course.

All Time Dream

I'm pretty sure that my all time dream job is a form of advertising but not as direct as marketing ads and dealing with companies. I would love to be on a Television show like E the soup. They get to make fun of the the crap we watch on There is so much stupidity being aired it is ridiculous, ridiculous enough to make a show about. The host gets to show these clips and make fun of them. I think it looks like a fun job, but that's just me, and that's also many years from now that i would ever be able to do something like that. The advertising is of course through the sponsors and the stupid people wearing certain brands might actually hurt that company. Maybe one day stupid people won't be our role models.

Below is a clip from You tube just copy and paste it into the address box above and enjoy the hilarious Joel Mchale

Billboards

I saw a billboard recently and all it said was "Does advertising work? Just did." then gave the number to call to rent the board. Very simple but what they did to replace design was a phrase that made me think and kind of smile at the cleverness behind it. If I had a company I probably would use billboards because they are a great way to promote yourself. The chick-fil-a billboards, priceless. There are a lot of cool ones out there. The best part about them I think is that the companies don't have to hope a lot of people are watching TV when their ad comes on or hope that they picked the right magazine. They just have to pick a good spot. I think Interstate highways are the best because a lot of people use them but it's usually not just the people who live near them. People from all over see them and that is good advertising right there. Seeing as how most billboards are just a slogan and design, they leave you wondering "What company is that? Where do I sign up?" etc. This allows the person to HAVE to look up the company slogan and learn more about them. Also good advertising. I also think that the funnier the billboard the more attention it gets. In the sense that more people will be interested in seeing what its about.

Entertainment

Fergie, Rappers, and even Carrie Underwood use products in their songs. Why? Because they get paid tons to promote brand names in their music. Brands everywhere are starting to use this style of advertising more and more and it works. Kids from all over hear these popular songs and are drawn to the idea of name brands. If the people they admire are singing about them then they become interested in them. Everyone wants to be like they're idle some more extreme then others, so being interested int the things their idles are singing about would be one step closer to being like them. Name Brands really hit the jack pot on this one. It's almost like subliminal messaging if you think about it.

Why advertising

Advertising has been around for so long. It is entertaining and informative. It's sole purpose is to tell you thing you want to hear so of course you listen. Good advertising will sell any product. I want to be an advertising promotions manager or art director. It requires hard work, fun and creativity. All of which I can do. I would love to be able to help businesses get their products noticed and do it in a way that the people appreciate.
